Everything will be ok in the end. If it is not ok, it's not the end. -John Lennon

SPECIALTIES

RELATIONSHIPS: Nothing matters more in life than the quality of our relationships. They can be a source of great comfort and belonging, or they can be the source of great stress and strife. Whether you are a couple who has recently faced adversity and is stuck in a cycle of arguing, or you are a parent who is unsure about how to support your teenage daughter in managing her emotions--my approach will be to focus on the strengths of the relationship and build up on those, while helping to make sense of the places of pain and disconnection. I believe that we are all doing the best we can, even if sometimes that doesn't seem to be very good---If we have a place to work through the messiness, we can come out the other side free of bitterness and full of skills to listen deeper, love more fully, and have more playful moments with each other.

NEW PARENTS/PARENTS TO BE: Nothing is more exciting, or more vulnerable than becoming a parent! With so many messages in the ether about the "shoulds and shouldn'ts" it can be overwhelming to know what approach to take, what matters, and what to ignore. As an attachment focused therapist my work with new parents is about empowering the connection between you and your child and understanding the research on what really matters in development and attachment. Whether you are hoping to break an old family pattern, or simply want reassurance about your perspectives, I love the process of empowering young parents to love well, parent with compassion, and find the resources and support that bring comfort and confidence.

TRAUMA RECOVERY: Anyone who has gone through a traumatic experience can tell you that the road to recovery is rarely straightforward, and often takes great care and work. Through processing together, as well as the use of EMDR, I support clients in shedding the burden and weight that trauma can bring into their minds, bodies, and relationships. Sometimes the trauma is overt like past sexual abuse/assault, or domestic violence, but sometimes the trauma is covert, like a parent who was never able to hug you when you were sad, or living in a culture that stereotypes your race, gender, or sexual identity as lesser than. No matter the type of trauma that you have encountered, we can work together to shift the story that it tells you and the hold that it has taken in your life.

ADOPTION RELATED: I have had the honor of working with adoptees in various settings and learning from them about the incredibly complex dynamics involved in an adoption experience (from the loss of one's first/birth family, to the experience of being raised by parents of a different race, to wrestling with questions of worth and belonging). I am also a sibling of two international adoptees who have also taught me much about the journey an adoptee takes, and the incredibly diverse perspectives an adoptee can have on that journey. When working with teenage and adult adoptees, I attempt to empower my clients to process their experiences and work through relationships to come out the other side feeling more confident and connected to their voice, needs, and community. I also support adoptive families in offering adoptees the most loving, supportive, and attuned relationships possible so that everyone gets to enjoy connection and understanding of each other.
